FLY BOYS AND THE MAN ON THE MOON Tonight was delightful! I decided last minute to attend a screening of FLY BOYS only to find out that it was the red carpet premiere. I really enjoyed the movie. The party afterwards was great as well. Of course, I had to introduce myself to producer Dean Devlin (Independence Day, Godzilla, Stargate) and tell him that I enjoyed the picture… and then I introduced myself – and shook hands – with Buzz Aldrin. To think, I was standing there talking to the man who was, with Neil Armstrong, one of the first two people to step onto the moon! Unbelieveable. What an amazing opportunity. He and his wife were delightful and I enjoyed speaking with them very much. They enjoyed the movie as well, by the way. Michael Dorn (Warf, from Star Trek the Next Generation) was there, but he split before I could say hi. Actually he and another Star, Marina Sirtis were sitting behind me during the show. Djimon Hounsou (of Amistad, among other things) was there… and a number of other “celebrities” that I won’t go into mentioning here. I did speak to a cast member from Fly Boys named Jennifer Decker… great performance and a lovely and beautiful actress. She doesn’t speak English, just French, which made me curse my lack of attention in high school French class and wish Amber Henyan ( French teacher at my old high school and wife of Jeffrey Henyan who played Brad in my last movie) was there with me. Oh well… I managed enough to get my point across. So, it’s late (as usual) and I have to get some sleep, so that’s all for tonight. I just had to relay some of that info about the premiere at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The only down side was that no one mentioned it was the red carpet premiere… so there I am thinking it’s a simple crew screening – showing up in jeans and a black tee-shirt. Oh well, as my good friend and producer Bob Hurrie jokes: “Chris, when you’re as far ‘above the line’ as you are, you could show up in underwear and it would be cool. I appreciate the sentiment, even if it is the worst, most extreme jest I have heard of late. It put a smile on my face… so that’s something. Bottom line, I still went up to the people I wanted to meet and behaved as if the moment was exactly as it should have been… of course I’m in jeans and a tee-shirt… why wouldn’t I be. Between you and me, I’ll be in a suit jacket and slacks next time, even if it is a crew screening. Goodnight all.
